Wells Brothers Restaurant in Racine is the pizza place Dave Portnoy scored an 8.1 in 2023 and called the best pizza in Milwaukee, which CBS 58 covered at the time. It is not in Milwaukee. It is in Racine, technically Mount Pleasant, and I drove out to see what the fuss was about. Wells Brothers has been on the same corner of 22nd and Mead since 1921, four generations of the same family. I got a large pizza, half cheese and half pepperoni and sausage, on their cracker-thin crust, plus the Goomba sandwich with fries. The Goomba is the one that kept coming up in the reviews: Italian sausage, meatball, mozzarella and hot beef on one roll.
