A walk in Pacific Bonsai Museum - Slow TV April 9, 2020

Time to b-r-e-a-t-h-e. Take a walk through the collection with us. This SLOW TV-style installment features a very chirpy bird plus: Twin trunked Formosan Juniper (Juniperus formosana), in training as a bonsai since 1960, originally created by Amy Liang. This twin trunk bonsai has a larger trunk trained into the informal upright style and a smaller trunk trained into the semi-cascade style. The entire composition has a feeling of motion and drama that is the result of not only the directional flow of the two trunks, but the alternating spirals of live and dead tissue in the larger trunk, the crown of “jin”, or dead wood, and the strongly defined and layered branching.
