Bishop Pass Backpacking Adventure! - John Muir Wilderness

Backpacking from South Lake to Kings Canyon via the Bishop Pass Trail in August of 2016. The Bishop Pass trail begins at South Lake just outside of the town of Bishop, CA, and gradually ascends along the south side of South Lake to Long Lake. From here the trail continues to climb past Saddlerock Lake and Bishop Lake before ultimately climbing up the final stretch of the pass into Kings Canyon National Park. The hike is approximately 4.5 miles from the trailhead parking lot at South Lake to the top of Bishop Pass, and can easily be done during a day hike. During this trip we pitched our tent at the south end of Long Lake, left all of our heavy items at camp, and went ultra light up to the top of Bishop Pass for a peak into the Kings Canyon back country.
