Welcome back to Day 2 of our three-day backpacking adventure through the rugged beauty of Montana’s Northern Rockies! After a peaceful night under the stars, we hit the trail early with one big goal in mind: summit one of the region’s most breathtaking peaks. The weather was crisp, the views were unreal, and spirits were high—but Mother Nature had other plans. As we gained elevation, the trail became increasingly buried under deep snowdrifts, turning what should have been a challenging but doable hike into a treacherous climb. With no crampons or ice gear and uncertain trail conditions ahead, we made the tough—but smart—decision to turn around. Safety first, always. Instead of pushing forward, we backtracked to a serene alpine valley and found the perfect spot to set up camp.
