Reach out and support your local (or global) animal shelter or rescue organization. Sadly, there are lots of them. Consider adopting an animal rather than buying from a breeder. You can find almost any breed or mixed breed dog in many shelters and there are now several breed-specific rescue organizations available. Do your research and make sure they are reputable and responsible organizations. Do NOT support puppy mills. There are many ways to support these underpaid and overworked organizations.
