Melissa Jefferson-Wooden and Kenny Bednarek completed a stunning sprint double at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest, Hungary, on Sunday, September 13. Jefferson-Wooden stormed to victory in the women’s 200m final, clocking 21.48 seconds to claim her second sprint gold of the championship after winning the 100m title. American teammate Gabby Thomas finished second, with Kayla White taking third. Minutes earlier, Kenny “Kung Fu Kenny” Bednarek powered to victory in the men’s 200m, winning in 19.52 seconds ahead of Botswana’s Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo, who finished in 19.76. American Courtney Lindsey took bronze in 19.79. The crowd erupted as sprint legend Usain Bolt appeared on the stadium screen applauding Bednarek’s performance. Both American sprinters secured a $300,000 jackpot for their 100m and 200m victories, underlining their dominance at the inaugural three-day championship.
