With a career going back into the fifties he remains the best selling artist of all time in the French speaking world as well as enjoying a successful acting career. Inspired by Elvis Presley and the pioneers of American rock 'n' roll he managed to take their energy and sense of rebellion and create something distinctively French. He was an immediate success and has remained so to this day.
