DUNE aims to decipher the properties of the striking subatomic particles called neutrinos. Almost without mass and hardly interacting with other materials, neutrinos come in three types: electron, muon and tau, depending on the interactions of the particles in which they are born. As the particles close along almost the speed of light, they can change type, in a phenomenon known as neutrino oscillation.
