One year later with Buttons the Elk

A little over a year ago, a partially-tamed elk named Buttons was discovered in Cle Elum. She had been pet by people, hand fed, and even ridden by children in the area. In fact, she had become a somewhat of a local celebrity! Once reported to WDFW, WDFW personnel spent five weeks attempting to re-wild Buttons, but she ignored the wild herd and still preferred humans. Lucky for Buttons, she was rehomed at the Woodland Park Zoo. She’s now settled in and doing great, but we’d like to remind everyone that Buttons is a special case. Not all animals are so lucky!
